What is a Grand?
In the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) a cat becomes a Grand Champion by
defeating 200 other champions. Champions are cats that are not neutered or
spayed and are usually going to be used in a breeding program.
For spayed and neutered cats there is a separate class, called Premiers.
Because there are fewer cats shown in Premiership the requirements to become a
grand are lower, a cat must defeat 75 other premiers to become a Grand
Premier.
Clarion Cattery has over 100 grands, more than 25 from other catteries and 75
and counting of our own breeding. Pictured below are a few of our grands.
Distinguished Merit
When a male cat has sired 15 cats that have achieved the Grand title,
either Champion or Premier, they are awarded the title of Distinguished Merit
(DM). A female must have five cats that grand to achieve the title of
